Data cabling and access points
WiFi is only as calm as the cable underneath it. We install data cabling across Gloucestershire and finish it at access points, desks and TVs.

AKM Aerials has installed home networking and data cabling in Gloucestershire for years. The WiFi work on this site sits on that habit: routes planned, cable dressed, ends labelled, nothing balanced on a plant pot. For WiFi, the cable runs back to the router or a small switch. For desks, TVs and tills, the same cable ends on a socket instead.
We fit Cat6 as the normal choice now, and we still work with existing Cat5e where it tests fine. A good existing run is worth keeping.
Where the cable goes
Lofts are the usual path in Gloucestershire houses. In stone cottages we use eaves voids, cupboards and agreed surface routes rather than chasing every wall. External runs in black cable reach garden rooms and barns. In offices we use the routes that do not shut you for the day.
- Ceiling access points, one per floor in most houses
- Sockets for TVs, offices and card machines that should not be on WiFi
- A small patch panel in a ventilated cupboard, not a knot of leads on the floor
- Labelling you can read in two years
Cabling during a renovation
If floors are up or plaster is off, tell us early. The labour is a fraction of a retrofit, and the finish is invisible. We will mark draw-wires or fit the cable before the boards go down.
Included when you book
- Cat6 cable, properly terminated and tested
- Patch panel or a tidy switch, sized to the job
- Access points mounted and adopted onto one network
- Desk and TV outlets where you asked for them
- Existing cable tested before we replace it
Questions on this work
Can you hide the cable in a finished house?
Often yes, via the loft, cellar or cupboard. Where we cannot hide it we will show you the route first. We do not start drilling a listed staircase on a guess.
Is powerline networking a substitute for cable?
Sometimes on a single ring main, rarely in old houses with noisy circuits, and never as the backbone we prefer to guarantee. We treat powerline as a last resort and say so.
